Projectile Aero Elasticity

Description

Aero-elastic effects have significant influence on the flight performance of high-speed slender projectile like rocket and missile. At certain velocity called the divergence velocity, the shift in Xcp, due to aerodynamics of a deflected projectile, coincide with the location of the CG. This makes the projectile, aerodynamically unstable and fail. To determine the margin of safety in divergence velocity, eigen values are solved for aero-elastic equation of motion. The equation combines aerodynamic loads with 1-D beam formulation of flexible projectile. On aerodynamic, structural and flight condition inputs, the software predicts Cp shift, divergence ratio and zeta-factor.
