Erosion Plume Deflector

Description

Plume deflectors are part of launch systems that are designed to withstand direct impingement rocket or missile plume. The deflectors are coated with special materials that can not only withstand high heat but are resistant to chemical reactions and particle abrasion. Thermal ablation or melting is the major phenomena by which deflector plates or its coating can erode. Hence, equations are solved that govern heat transfer from rocket plume followed by temperature rise and ablation / melting of material. This software app outputs rate of erosion for an ablative liner when inputs related to rocker motor plume are given by user.
