Axial piston pump is a positive displacement type hydraulic pump which has 7 or 9 pistons arranged circularly over an inclined swashplate. Design and sizing calculations for an axial pump involves solving equation of motion for pistons, cylindrical block and swashplate along with constitutive relation for hydraulic oil. Input to design and sizing software of axial pump are dimensions of the components, RPM, inlet / outlet pressure, swash plate angle and oil properties. Output from software is discharge and case drain flow rates, shaft torque and power and time history of flow fluctuations.
